KORA 2010: P-Square Rules Africa



The Nigerian music industry has, once again, proved to be a major force to reckon with as one of its products, P-square, emerged the African Artiste of The Year at KORA All Africa Music Awards, held at Ouagadougou, Burkina-Faso, on April 4.P-square defeated the Senegalese groups, Black Diamond; Angola's Paul G and Homegrown Amety Meria to take home the award worth one million dollars
(about 742,000 euros), at the event attended by 3,000 people including the host country's president, Blaise Compaore.

Ghana’s Becca, got the Best African Prospect; Senegalese singer, Chronicle 2h, was named Best Reggae Artiste and Alicia Keys, who was absent, was crowned Best African-American artiste in the diaspora.

The diva from Cape Verde, Cesaria Evora and Gabon's Pierre Akendengue, picked up Lifetime Achievement awards.

At the event which held at Ouagadougou’s sports stadium, tributes were paid to the late American pop singer, Michael Jackson, who died last year.

While the award ceremony was on, P-square was in Troxy, London, performing at a concert; having commenced its tour of Europe few days earlier.

The award plaque and cash reward was received at the event by President Compaore himself, who described the Nigerian singers as the next African export as far as music is concerned.

He, however, presented the award to P-square at his Presidential Villa on Monday, April 5.

Shortly after the award, a private jet was sent by the organisers to pick P-Square and his crew from London to Burkina Faso. The concert was staged for the newly crowned African Artiste of the Year, P-square, and they performed for about two hours
